Description
Puglia is the heel of Italy’s boot, best known for rustic, inky reds. Appassimento wines like Amarone, on the other hand, are usually thought of as distinctly Northern Italian. That’s all set to change, thanks to this: the very first appassimento wine ever made using Primitivo. Puglia’s sun-drenched and windswept vineyards are perfect for appassimento. The growers move through the vineyard, twisting the stem of every other bunch by hand to halt the grapes’ ripening so they dry in the warm wind. The result is a wine with intense levels of flavour. It’s big. It’s rich. It’s velvety. It’s a real hug in a glass – full of ripe fruit flavours like cherries, raspberries and redcurrants. With its plush texture you’ll struggle to find a more comforting wine. Fantastic with a robust meaty stew.
