Barolo and Barbaresco claim the limelight in Langhe, but if you look further afield in the region, you’ll find Nebbiolo at fantastic value. Here, the acclaimed Pio Cesare winery make this exclusively from hand-picked grapes on family-owned vineyards. It’s aged in oak for 24 months and is savoury, juicy and remarkably fresh, with firm, chewy tannins, intense notes of ripe red fruit and a full body. James Suckling gave this 2016 vintage 92 points.
