Description

Morey-Saint-Denis is nestled next to Gevrey-Chambertin, and it’s a great place to look for value in Burgundy. Henri Pion became involved in the wine trade in the 1950s. Today, his sons Olivier and Christian are at the helm of the business. The grapes for this wine are hand-picked from a single plot of 80-year-old vines – hence the name Très Vieilles Vignes. There’s no legal requirement which states how old a vine must be to earn the title of ‘Old Vines’. But in this case, the addition of ‘Very’ is more than justified, making for a wonderfully complex wine. Silky. Juicy. Elegant. It’s beautifully aromatic, with notes of ripe cherry, blackberry and savoury dried herbs. 14 months of oak ageing shows itself in notes of pepper and spice, which adds to the luxuriously long finish. Enjoy this with roast pigeon.
