Description
This isn’t your standard Kiwi Sauvignon Blanc. Winemaker Michele Pedron knows his crisp, refreshing whites inside out. He’s worked all over the world specialising in exactly the sort of mouth-watering whites New Zealand is known for. He also worked in Sancerre – inspiring him to try a barrel aged Sauvignon. It’s a style more commonly found in France, but his gamble more than paid off. Barrel ageing gives the wine more weight and a roundness of texture. It’s a moreish contrast to the textbook Kiwi Sauvignon tropical, gooseberry flavours, adding a sweetly spicy edge. Delicious. The subtle smokiness makes this an interesting food wine – it’s incredible with usually tricky to pair smoked fish.
