Nicolas Feuillatte was a man about town. He made a fortune in instant coffee and was a fixture of the New York jet set – celebrity connections which made his Champagne instantly popular. Today, Nicolas Feuillatte is far and away the most popular Champagne label in France – and the third most popular globally. That Jackie Kennedy and Lauren Bacall used to drink it in Nicolas’ plush Fifth Avenue apartment did nothing to hurt its popularity. Nor that it’s delicious and incredibly well-made. And it’s one of kind in Champagne – the only co-operative in the region, a collective of nearly 5000 growers. This vintage 2010 is a real cut above. It’s incredibly rich and briochey, ripely fruity with flavours of apricot, yellow fruit and raspberry. Delicious with aged comté – or fish and chips.
